SuperStories

Five fascinating exhibitions with over 100 works by national and international artists and designers.

SuperStories is the title of the second edition of the Triennial for contemporary art, fashion, and design in Hasselt,
curated by Koos Flinterman.

While the first edition mainly considered crossovers between various disciplines, SuperStories considers contemporary art, fashion, and design as separate disciplines. Although the boundaries between contemporary art and design seem to have been historically defined, new tension fields are continuously created. There have been periods throughout history in which artists and designers operated side by side, as well as periods in which they stood at opposite sides.

The starting point for this Triennial is the usage of the narrative element in artistic and design-oriented disciplines.

Artists communicate by means of narrative elements not only in contemporary art, but in the design field as well. For some, metaphors are more important than functionality. In this way, every artist or designer, every work of art or design, tells its own story within its own context. All this results in a dynamic project which does not limit itself to just presenting the work. The artists and (fashion) designers are actively involved in the event.
SuperStories doesn't just 'present' but also 'creates'.

The stage for SuperStories is the city of Hasselt itself, consisting of a trajectory that starts at the Hasselt Tourist Office and runs along various cultural sites:
cultuurcentrum Hasselt, Modemuseum Hasselt, Nationaal Jenevermuseum, art centre Z33 and Ciap.
