ExperimentaDesign Lisbon
http://www.experimentadesign.pt The first main exhibition of the emblematic Swiss architect Peter Zumthor comes to Portugal. Stretching over almost 2000 m2 in LX Factory, an emerging cultural space in Lisbon, it takes place from September 7 to November 2, 2008. Unique in its breadth and depth, it represents a milestone in the author's career and the study of contemporary architecture. The largest and most comprehensive exhibition ever devoted to Peter Zumthor's work, it features 29 projects, 6 large-scale models, an impressive document collection and a life-size video installation of 12 buildings by the artists Nicole Six and Paul Petritsch. In this installation 6 screens show 6 perspectives of a building for 40 minutes, recreating the experience of Zumthor's architecture in an intense and enveloping atmosphere. |

VIDEONALE 12
"We are looking for video art which, today, is already part of tomorrow's breeding ground," says Georg Elben, curator of the VIDEONALE 12. Quo vadis video art ? this is the question the VIDEONALE at the Bonn Kunstmuseum has addressed every two years since 1984. As of now all artists are invited to apply for the VIDEONALE 12 with a video work created in the past two years.
The Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney
The Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA), Sydney presents a new exhibition entitled Video Logic, focusing on six contemporary Australian artists who work with video and screen-based practices.
Featured artists are Denis Beaubois, Philip Brophy, John Conomos, Adam Geczy, John Gillies and Eugenia Raskopoulos. Each has contributed substantially to the development of the medium in Australia and their work has been influential for a subsequent generation of Australian video artists.
Curated by Russell Storer, Video Logic explores a medium that has reached great prominence in recent years. Each artist works with video as part of a wider practice that may include installation, performance, sound, and writing. They take a range of formal, conceptual and presentational approaches to the medium, drawing upon its unique ability to combine multiple disciplines.
The works of John Gillies and Denis Beaubois form connections between video and performance. Gillies' new work draws upon the film genre of the road movie and cinematic techniques of montage and narrative to create an evocative video performance. Beaubois' works consider the video camera itself as an 'actor', producing its own electronically-generated point of view. Language and cultural history are important elements in the work of Eugenia Raskopoulos and John Conomos. Conomos' work Autumn Song Take Two takes the form of a video essay, using a collage of images and words to investigate his personal history, within a neon-lit installation created for the exhibition. Raskopoulos' videos employ performance and animation to consider communication and the shifting nature of meaning in different contexts.

Atelier Van Lieshout Furniture
The London creative scene is keeping us on our toes. No sooner than we recovered from the excitements of the 2007 London Design Festival, it was time to get revved up for the London art fairs. We experienced Pulse London and the enormity of Frieze (more to come on that), but we started out at Design Art London, the organizers of which had clearly made a strategic decision to exclude themselves from the Design Festival and jump in with the art crowd.
There have been indicators of the ever-growing appetite for "design art," as we saw with the popularity of Established + Sons show and the Size + Matter Installation, but there is no surer sign of this trend than when the bold Dutch art collective Atelier Van Lieshout roll into town. Having enjoyed great popularity around Europe over the past few years London is finally catching up with AVL's radical work.

In the early 1960s, the London-based Archigram group around Peter Cook designed Plug-In City, a megastructure in the form of a both roomy and gigantic framework into which mobile units (Plug-Ins) for all sorts of purposes and needs could be slotted, moved, and removed. Nothing was predetermined; everything was to change according to the changing needs of its users. Around the same time, Constant Nieuwenhuys in Amsterdam was working on New Babylon, an urban landscape branching out like a rhizome covering existing cities, resting on columns and pillars. The "sectors" of New Babylon form one endless, convoluted spatial continuum, a tangle of levels and passages, joined by struts and braces. The interiors are neither fixed nor defined. Rather, space is redefined over and over again by "homo ludens," drifting through the labyrinthine passages, determined solely by creativity and the power of his imagination.

Speculation and staging, as techniques intrinsic to scientific thought, its experiments and reasonings, receive special attention – not least because this is the point at which aesthetic and scientific practices intersect. For example, stage, photography and film have long been described as instruments of knowledge, that serve not to prove but rather to actually produce and stage knowledge.

Drawing from the Len Lye Foundation Collection and Archives and featuring materials never exhibited before the exhibition follows the technical processes and conceptual threads that run through Len Lye's artistic career, from his earliest sketches, paintings and batiks of the 1920s, through to his photographic work, experimental and documentary films, and astounding motorised steel sculptures from the 1960s and 1970s. Also featured is a wide range of the artist's notebooks and working materials.
Ersta Konsthall
In collaboration with St Jacobs Church, Ersta Konsthall presents Divine Light, an exhibition, the nature of which is pure faith. It strikes you blind to make you see.
Curator Linus Elmes
Ersta Konsthall is invited to take part in the St. Jacob art projects during the church year 2008. Tomorrow, at 2 pm, there will be a talk at the church between Linus Elmes and Bo Larsson, diocesan curate, who later will hold a sermon on the theme "Freedom in Christ" with reference to the work presented above. Curator at St. Jacob is Eva Asp.
Artangel
In SEIZURE - Hiorns' most ambitious large-scale work to date - he precipitates an unexpected sculptural form within the fabric of a late-modernist social housing estate near London Bridge.
Hiorns uses crystallisation as an unpredictable process informed by the way that the crystals grow under specific circumstances. He has applied this process to objects reminiscent of the rational structures of human knowledge, creative control and industrial power transforming steel poles, car engines and cardboard architectural models into crystalline forms.
Castellón County Council
First, because it implies the consolidation of a unique painting sample in our country and, second, because it has already become a referent which shows the name of our province all over the world.
It is not said by us. It is said by the amount of participation and the statistics, which grow each year and overcome their own registers. It is enough to remember the 450 artists who participated last year, representing a total of 30 different countries from the five continents.
